Guatavita-El Dorado Legend Tour

Since the beginning of our tour we will be enjoying viewpoints strategically located to give us the best view. For about an hour and a half, we will be witnessing the beautiful landscapes that surrounds the city, until we arrive to the new Guatavita, a picturesque town with a unique architecture, located next to Tominé dam. From there, we will continue our way to Guatavita, where we can enjoy the popular legend of El Dorado, based on a Muisca ritual with gold as the main character.

Take a picture of the lagoon and its stunning and mystical landscape to be saved forever in your memory and then we will explore the typical flavors of the traditional dishes from this part of the country.

You have the option to combine this Guatavita: El Dorado Legend Tour with other places with unique beauty such as Zipaquira or Nemocón, where we can see stunning scenarios and handcrafts made by the natives.

My wife and I took the 8 hour tour that stopped at Guatavita (El Dorado lagoon) then at Zipaquira (Salt Cathedral). We normally do not spend this much on tours but this was well worth it. We did see some other companies offering tours for slightly less but I am confident we got the best tour possible. Our tour guide, Byron, was great. He was extremely knowledgeable about everything we saw on the tour, spoke great english, and just a great ambassador to his city and country. Also, the lunch we had was phenomenal. After working up an appetite hiking up to the lagoon, we had some huge chicken and Colombian steak meals at a great restaurant. We definitely recommend Hansa after our positive experience.

Booked a one day trip via the hotel concierge, and was a great experience. The places we visited were the Guatavita Lake and the Zipaquira Salt Cathedral. Both places, the first a natural landmark and the second created by the people, were breathtaking. Our guide was John Alexander Murcia who, a travel passionate himself, had great knowledge about the places we visited but about greatest places in the world as well. Very friendly, John made our second day in Colombia unforgettable. I highly recommend John for his services. He was the first to show us what a great country is Colombia and how friendly the people are. By the end of the day it felt like we knew him for a while. We would definitely use his services again next time we are in Bogota!

Byron was our guide for 3 full days. We are a family of 3 including our 10 year old son. Like so many travellers we sadly don’t have a month or more to spend in Colombia, so having now travelled extensively we have learn – get yourself a brilliant guide, research areas of must see with 2-3 hours of a city and spend at least 3 days in any one major location… So that’s what we have just done- after writing to Evelyn at Hansard tours I briefed her thru email that we were a family of 3, very active, wanted to do as much as we could and wanted a guide who we could get no end of knowledge and local information out of, plus a guide who could also answer the many questions if a 10 year old too… Byron- he was wonderful, the most polite, kind, patient, and super super knowledgable man – gosh we were super blessed to have had him at our finger tips for 3 days. From the north to the south and everywhere in between we did Bogota. The days we’re long- but we are fit and wanted as much as possible. the salt cathedral, the organic coffee plantation, the drive out to the Guatavita and the walking tour thru old Bogota and the markets and Monserate Hill, were all fabulous and exactly what we had requested. Not only did we see so much but we had our minds filled with so much local information, facts and wonders. That you Hansa, and an even bigger thankyou to Byron. Not a moment of down time, but so many wonderful memory’s

My sister and I took this tour with Hansa Tours in August. We went to Lake Guatavita with John as our tour guide. He was excellent and spoke very good English, although we asked him to speak Spanish so we could practice. He was very patient with our language difficulties! We learned a lot about the lake and the surrounding areas. It was more expensive than other places, but we were happy we went with Hansa Tours! No complaints here.

Simply professional n friendly tour service. We booked one full day tour for Nemocon & Guatavita ahead of our scheduled trip. The sent a van, driver and tour guide, David Fernandez for 2 of us. David, a perfect gentleman did everything possible to make the best out our day. A BIG thx to David.
Next day we didn’t plan anything, but after receiving the service on day one we thought we should have someone from this tour to give us a city tour. They immediately managed and we made the plan to pay per hour service as we didn’t know how long we want to go around the city.
Next day Oscar Beltran took care of us with company car, and WOW! this man has good sense of humor, enjoyed every moment going around the city, covered most points of interest. Oscar knows people around the city, and made the day so efficient.
Overall, we used tour services in several countries, and we think this tour service will do better if they keep doing what they are offering now. Being in Bogota not knowing spanish, we felt comfortable, secured and enjoyed, money well spent. Thank you guys!

With little time to waste in Colombia I had prearranged a private tour for the day with Hansa Tours and their excellent guide, Daniel Pedraza, a Bogota native and one time Miami area Dominos pizza delivery guy. Daniel met me in the lobby of the hotel and after a quick exchange of pleasantries we headed north out of the town of Gautavita (elevation 3,000), where the nearby lake is home to the legend of El Dorado began. The walk up to the lake was littered with school children on a field trip and the odd tourist but it was very relaxing and good exercise too.
For lunch we drove to the town of Zipaquira for a delicious bowl of Ajaico – a traditional thick soup made with potatoes, chicken, avocado, corn and cream. We also tried a selection from the barbecue including pork, lamb, blood sausage, chorizo accompanied by arepas, which are corn based pancakes that you can stuff with your favorite filling.
Next door is the impressive underground cathedral carved out of a salt mine. At the entrance of the church are 14 small chapels, representing the stations of the cross, which illustrate the events of Jesus’ last journey. Each station has a cross and several kneeling platforms carved into the halite structure. There are no images of Jesus but the symbolism of each different cross represents his struggle. The enormous main temple has three naves each connected by a thin crack in the salt walls. Thankfully there were very few other tourists there and at times it seemed as if we had the whole place to ourselves.
I can’t say enough about the quality of the tour and especially Daniel who was more than just a tour guide – he served as driver, translator, and bodyguard. For anyone with little time to spare, I highly recommend Hansa tours. And if you’re lucky enough to get Daniel as your tour guide, you’ll be in for a real treat.

We had 3 days in Bogota and we wanted to find an experienced DMC (Destination management company) that would plan and arrange, the tours, the hotel , the restaurants and all transportation.
We were referred to Eric at Hansa Tours. Working with Angie they set up a great itinerary, booked the hotel, arranged transportation and provided us with Daniel Pedraza as our private driver and guide for 3 days.
Our time was maximized and we feel we saw as much of Colombia as anyone could possibly see in 3 days. Oro museum, Botero art gallery, a thorough city tour, including Monseratt. Guatavita, the Salt Cathedral, a boutique Coffee plantation ( Coloma). Fusagasuga, Girardot.
The change in Altitude and subsequent climate differential allows for among the most diverse vegetation of anywhere in the world within a 2 hour drive. And through Daniel at Hansa we saw it all.
We have been using DMC’s for years to see as much of the world as we can in short period’s of time. Hansa tours are outstanding and as good as any we have ever used anywhere in the world.
Colombia is an incredible country. We felt safe and secure. It is very clear why tourism is growing exponentially at present throughout Colombia.

I booked four tours with Hansa during my recent trip to Colombia – Bogota city tour, exotic fruit/market tour, Salt Cathedral and Laguna Guatavita as well as Villa De Leyva. I reached out to their Marketing Manager Angie on Trip Advisor. Her quote was not the lowest and she was the most buttoned down amongst dozens of tour companies I contacted. Her quick responses to my inquiries and flexibility to tweak the itinerary based on my needs made me decide to go with them. I definitely made the right decision! Once I got to Bogota, my tour Byron Leon picked me up with a driver from the airport and since then, we spent 3 days together and became fast friends. Byron was hands down the best tour guide that I have ever had. He was polite, informative, punctual, attentive and caring. I learned so much from him not only about the sights but also about the way of life in Colombia which is exactly what I wanted to know. He is a safe, sane driver and a knowledgeable guide who always puts customer’s interest first. The 3 days we spent together was such a delight that they flew by quickly without me realizing it. I highly recommend Hansa Tours to anyone who wants to see and experience the real Colombia. Ask for Byron Leon to be your guide and you won’t be disappointed!

My girlfriend and I had a tour with Fabian for two days. One our first day we toured the salt cathedral and Lake Guatavita and on the second day we went to the coffee plantation. Both were amazing and Fabian was an excellent tour guide. He was a very personable guide and showed us many wonderful things about the lake and salt cathedral and really made our tours a very memorable experience. He told us all about the city and surrounding towns during our trips. Fabian and his driver were courteous, on time, and very funny. We had a wonderful time with them and would happily ask for them again.

We used Hansa for two days to do a tour of Monserratte, La Candelaria, the Salt Cathedral, and Lake Guatavita. They were great and very reasonably priced. Our guide was Patricia. We got along with her super well, and she was very fun to have around. Would definitely recommend Patricia and this company to anyone going to Bogota.

I would like to say Hansa Tours Day and especially tour guide Catalina Rincon were absolutely the best. She was well prepared, knew everything about the city and history. She was very much in detail, friendly and positive and willing to answer any questions, she showed Bogota better than any travel guide would. EXCELLENT FRIENDLY SERVICE

Anyone who is concerned about visiting Colombia is making a big mistake. I felt totally safe in Bogota. I make a visit to the Guatavita lagoon and salt cathedral, with Favian Correa as a guide and Edwin as a driver. Both visits exceeded my expectations.
Favian knowledge of the city and its history could not have been gleaned from a tour book. I was able to see more with him than I ever would have seen without him, as he made the itinerary efficient throughout my stay. Thanks.

We had a great time with our excursions. A one day trip to Guatavita and the Salt Cathedral. Another day exploring/hiking the Chicaque forest. Check out the approx. 300 foot zip line. WOW! Our Hansa guides, Alejandro and John, were very knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. They were very familiar with the Bogota and Colombian history, culture and surrounding eco-system. As a private tour, we were not rushed and our guides were flexible. For both tours, I recommend hiking boots, a light jacket, pants and a good

We spent a nice day with Catalina Rincon as our tour guide, visiting Guatavita. Catalina is super nice and very knowledgeable. During our drive to the lagoon, we chatted about lots of things related to Colombia. When we arrived at the lagoon, unfortunately the weather was not great, but hey, not much you can do about that… The lagoon was interesting to visit, especially after having learned about in the Museo del Oro in Bogota the previous day. To be honest, it was nice but not the most spectacular site we’ve visited. I’m sure that it looks more impressive on a sunny day.
On our way back, we added a visit to Andres Carne de Res to the trip, which is a wacky restaurant that everyone says you should visit at least once. It didn’t disappoint – it’s a place like no other you’ve ever visited. We asked Catalina to join us, and had a very nice meal together. She was able to give us excellent recommendations – something much appreciated in a place with a menu as thick as a phone book.
All in all, an excellent experience, and I would certainly recommend Hansa Tours, and specifically Catalina as your guide. The lagoon itself is a bit mediocre, but there’s little that Hansa Tours can change about that… You’ll be in good hands with them, whatever trip in Bogota or surroundings you book.

A little daunted by the size of Bogota and a tight schedule we thought to book a day tour for these two famous attractions away from the city. It was really perfect – we were picked up from our hostel early in the morning and they were even kind enough to drop us off at the nearby bus station for the next leg of our trip. Karen, our guide, was an absolute gem – she spoke flawless English, was super knowledgeable and friendly / professional throughout. Both sites were well worth visiting, the lunch included was a tasty (and plentiful) intro into Colombian food. There was really nothing more we could ask for in a day tour.
