Candelaria Tour in Bogotá

In this Cadelaria Tour you will know Bogotá’s historic center, where it all began. Witness the development of this cosmopolitan city. La Candelaria is the place that keeps the magic of the colonial era, when the, so called, South American was just a seed of what it is today.

To walk around the stoned paths of the city center is to be the spectator of a place where the architecture, the art and the culture are combined in a perfect way. You also will have the opportunity to get to know The Congress, The Prime Cathedral, The Justice Palace and The Main Town Hall that are resisting the time in a zone full of history, where the republic was built.

If you are interested in the pre-Colombian tradition, the Gold Museum, in this Candelaria tour, will show you the native’s culture and the traditions that are a trademark of this historical city. On the other hand, The Botero Museum has the biggest collection of the original pieces made by the popular Colombian artist, Fernando Botero.

You can not leave Bogotá without trying the traditional and delicious “Ajiaco”, a characteristic dish made with different types of potatoes, chicken, rice and some exotic spices and is one of the favorite dishes of the colombians. The local gastronomy offers a wide menu for lunch and you will be amazed with the variety of them.

After the lunch, we can choose between different places to visit: Quinta de Bolivar Museum, National Museum, Archaeological Museum, XIX Century Museum, Typical Costumes Museum, Military Museum, etc. You can choose two of them depending on your preferences.

Beautiful city, very friendly & welcoming people and a great tour guide. We did a tour of Candelaria, the beautiful historic district, and visited the Gold museum – in our opinion both must sees when you visit Bogota. Our guide was very knowledgeable, spoke fantastic English and very friendly. Unfortunately we only had one day in town but we will defiantly go back in the future.

We recently spent 1and one half days in Bogota. Our guide was Camilla and we found her to be pleasant, great personality and extremely knowledgeable. She provided a broad overview of both colonial and modern Bogota, and her wide range of knowledge enabled her to guide us through the artistic aspect of Botero Museum and the archeological and ethniclogical aspectof Gold Museum. Her English was perfect and the tour was well planned to take advantage of the short time we had in Bogota and helped make it an enjoyable experience. Highly recommend .

I had the chance to visit Bogota with Luis from Hansa Tours.
I like a guide when he loves his city and his country.
This was the case with Luis. We had only 4 hours, which is not enough to really discover a city but we saw many important things and it gave me the incentive to go back to Bogota and Colombia.
    A first class experience.

On a press trip in Bogota, I had the pelasure to meet David Fernandez!
He is the perfect guide with so much knowledge (he could also speak such a perfect French why me !) We got along so weell that we became friends.
His passion for history, culture and everything that touches Bogota and Colombia’s culture is great and makes the tour fascinating and truly enjoyable. If you’re going to visit Bogota, you gotta do it with David Fernandez ! 🙂

I traveled to Colombia with my girlfriend (she’s from the Czech Republic) two months ago, and she loved the trip. It was really nice to hang around Bogota with a guide like Jeff. He’s very passionate about history and culture, and we’re all into that too. We really enjoyed all the facts about “Chicha”.

I had one afternoon between business meetings and called Hansa. My professional guide was Fabian and we had a very professional driver as well. After a brief get to know you conversation, I told Fabian “you’re in charge”. He led me on a tour of the city that I’ll never forget. He was knowledgable, friendly and patient with all my questions. I planned on a 2 hour tour, but 6 hours later we were still going. Muchos gracias Fabian and Hansa for an unforgettable experience.

I wanted to visit Bogota’s ‘old city’ (La Candelaria) and learn the city’s history. Fabiano was very knowledgeable regarding the neighborhood and the Botero Museum. Seeing the city from a local’s perspective was exactly what I was seeking. Thank you Fabiano and Hansa Tours. I would like to visit Bogota again and visit la Villa De Leyva.

Excellent tour. Had Byron as our tour guide, and we were all very impressed by not just how knowledgeable he was, but his enthusiasm, and all round enjoyment of showing us around Bogota. Now a problem I’ve found on my travels is that tour guides often take you to completely overrated tourist traps, and to overpriced food where they probably…

We were originally just going to do the city tour to get an idea of the city, it was so much fun we decided to do the Salt Cathedral! We had different guides for each and they both spoke wonderful English which was a relief!
Those guys were very professional and fun! It was like hanging out with some Colombian friends! 5 stars all the way!

We had contracted for a six-hour tour of the Candelaria, but realized we could easily see it by ourselves. Our guide, Oscar, explained at the beginning that we could hire him by the hour and that it was fine if we used less time. He told us some interesting things about the Candelaria buildings, then drove us to show us some neighborhoods we wanted to see like Macarena and other affluent residential neighborhoods in the north, as well as a poor, but very colorful neighborhood above the city. It helped us get oriented to Bogata.
We are very happy we did this tour. It would have been nice if Oscar’s English were better because we speak no Spanish.

We had an excellent experience with a day tour of Bogota with John Murcia Leon of Hansa Tours. He was highly knowledgeable about every aspect of Bogota and Colombia–history, cultures, peoples, politics, etc., and spoke fluently on each topic. He also could tailor his discussion to our interests, and adjust the tour in real time to our objectives. Great service, friendly guy, very positive experience.

I´m so happy I chose Hansa for my half day tour of Bogota on a recent layover on my way to Patagonia. Daniel was the perfect tour guide. He picked me up promptly at the airport and wisked me off to La Candelaria for a walking tour of the colonial area, the presidential palace, the Cathedral of San Augustin…one of the most beautiful I´ve seen ever…and the Museum de Oro. He even treated me to a wonderful lunch of tamale, wrapped in banana leaves (yum!) and [
“the best coffe in the world” prepared right at your table. Daniel also provided many stories, history lessons and great company. It was well worth the price and I highly recommend it.

I had a wonderful tour around la candelaria, and my tour guide Byron León was excellent. It was an unexpected tour for a single person but I really had a good time, Byron had really good knowledge of the place and explained everything I needed to know. I really recommend this tour if you are interested in getting to know the museums and the architectural side of la candelaria, we visited also Botero museum, the gold museum.

Recently we visited Bogota for a few days for both business and fun and had a wonderful time learning about the city and the country with the help of our knowledgeable and friendly tour guide Daniel. He was the most helpful person and made our trip very productive work-wise and exiting and fun on the personal side. We look forward to going back to Colombia soon.

We were visiting Bogota for the first time and wanted a guide to get us acclimated to getting around. Daniel was promptly at the airport to meet us and drove us in his comfortable car giving us lots of information. We went to the Gold Museum where he had a very special surprise. –Won’t write about it or it would spoil it for others. We also walked around parts of Candelaria where he was able to talk the MP’s into letting us through the barriers near the Congress and the President’s home even though there was special security for a visitor that day. We were able to walk closer and also take photos.
Daniel was very responsive to what we wanted…to see churches, for example.
I was having a tough day for me with mobility and also fighting a cold and ear infection. Daniel was very kind to provide places for me to rest and also he walked back to the parking garage and drove to pick us up so I wouldn’t have to walk back after our stroll.
He gave us lots of information on Colombia as well as on Bogota and no issue was off limits!

We recently took the six hour tour of Bogota and thought it was the best thing we did on our visit. John Murcia was our guide and was extremely knowledegable about the history of the city. He also was able to give us invaluable insight to the Museo de Oro and other stops. During our tour, he was stopped three times for additional information by other tourist who overhead him explaining things to us. He picked us up at our hotel and gave us a private tour in English (he is also fluent in Spanish, German, and Portuguese). You will be hard pressed to find a better tour, much less one in English that from Hansa Tours.

I took the tour with Tatiana, what an amazing guide. She is took me to the Museo del Oro and to many other cool places downtown. I loved the fact that she offered me to walk with her most of the tour, this gave me a indent experience of old town. We tasted one of Colombia’s best coffees, walked small allies, saw all the important historical buildings and visited hidden lookouts of the city. An unforgettable experience. She is a very informative and has an excellent knowledge of the city. I would definitely recommend her as a tour guide.

Byron was an excellent tour guide. My coworker and I did the Monserrate visit and the La Candaleria tour. The Gold Museum was closed on Mondays so we visited an art museum. The tour included lunch at a great local restaurant in La Candaleria. Byron was extremely knowledgeable and gave us great information on the history and architecture of the area. He even made sure we got into a coffee shop so we could buy coffee to take back with us. Byron even knew a lot about the artwork at the museum and the history of the painters. Monserrate was beautiful and the entire tour was worth the money.

My wife and I had a marvelous long weekend in Bogota. Fabian from Hansa Tours gave us a great understanding of the history and the culture as he spirited us around the main sights of the city speaking excellent English. The tour was a great way to get to know Bogota.

I had some free time during a recent business trip to Bogota and decided to look into guided tour options. Hansa showed up as the top rated tour group in Bogota, so I decided to go with them,. I was not disappointed. My guide Catalina was a delight to spend the day with. She clearly loves her country, its history, art and traditions and is well informed about them all. She seems to be on a personal mission to try to correct some of the misconceptions about Colombia that are a legacy of the drug problems of the early 1990s. Strongly recommended.

While in Bogota for business my wife and I had only one day to tour Bogota. We chose Hansa Tours for a city tour based on the trip advisor reviews and were not disappointed. We opted for a private tour and our guide, Alejandro, was on time to pick us up at our hotel and spoke excellent English. The vehicle was clean and comfortable. Lunch provided as part of the tour was very good. Alejandro provided insight into the rich history and culture of Columbia and, importantly, knew how to navigate around the inevitable Bogota traffic jams and maze of streets. We welcomed the walking involved in our tour but if that is a problem for you it should be brought up prior to booking to make sure accommodations are made.

I had a free day during a business trip to Bogota. Though the high price, I decided to take a private tour with hansa tours. The trip was awsome! The guide, Andrea Espinosa was a great company, and very knowledgeable! I really experienced Bogota, the local food, culture and history.
    I highly recommend Hansa tours.

My husband and I had an excellent experience with our tour guide Daniel. He picked us up from our hotel and we felt in good hands the entire day. Daniel was knowledgeable, fun, and gave us a unique experience. It didn’t feel like your everyday tour. In addition to taking us to some of the great museums and popular sites, we also ate lunch at a delicious “hole in the wall” restaurant and had a private coffee demonstration at a cafe. Even though the weather didn’t cooperate with us that day, Daniel was able to give us a wonderful and memorable experience.

We spent amazing three hours in Bogota and it was definitely worth leaving the airport and not waiting there for the connecting flight. Despite little time we had for the sightseeing, we managed to see quite a lot thanks to a well-prepared program and smooth pick up and drop-off at the airport. Our guide Catalina was very knowledgeable and tried to tell us as many information as possible. The way she introduced the city and Colombian culture ensured us that we will return to Colombia one day. Moreover email correspondence with Hansa tour is excellent thanks to their prompt replies and detailed information.

We have spent a very good time with Juan, our guide, who passionately showed us the main attractions in Bogotá in a very interesting, informative and pleasant way.
    Definitely to recommend.

Our experience of the tour was amazeing. We are americans and speak little spanish so we were a little nervous. we went to the Monsarate which is a huge mountain view of the city, a gold museum, la candeleria which is the ancient colonial capitol city of Bogota. Our Tour Guide Marcelo made the trip very memorable as he thoroughly explained may facts about the culture of colombia and taught us many random tips and facts about bogota and colombia. He was very patient and relaxed and had a great personality. He was like a walking encyclopedia he had a great answer for every question we asked. He spoke perfect english and made us feel very comfortable and relaxed and safe during our tour. He is the perfect tour guide for Americans who speaks little english and I highly recomend this tour for your first day in bogota so you can learn the culture and feel more comfortable for the rest of your trip. the price its a good deal as the experience is priceless. We will always remember Marcelo! a++

It was a very knowledgable and relaxing tour in most beautiful streets and spots in Bogota, we visited some local closed yards, colourful streets and carved churches, as well as had a very impressive visit to Botero museum. Angelica Rodriguez was our guide and she is very nice person who knows a lot about her city, and you feel like you visiting your old friend when you walk with her. Thank you very much for this experience!

We were punctually fetched at the hotel by Hernandes, a very helpful driver with a clean car. Jorge our guide spoke perfect french and english and was really interested to talk about the history of Columbia/ origins of the city as well as explaining details of the salt mine with a Botanist’s perspective. He spared no effort to make our tour most enjoyable, he took us to Jeronimo’s famous ice cream factory/ restaurant on the way back from the venue, well worthwhile. We recommend Jorge as a very competent guide and consequently Hansa Tours.

Angelica Rodriguez gave us a great tour of the city of Bogota, on bicycles. She was very knowledgeable and showed us lots of sites ofinterest, and answered all our questions. I would definitely recommend her as a tour guide.

Our guide Jorge is several generations a Bogota native, and he was full of information, and inexhaustible stamina. Loved the Gold and Botero museums, as well as the architecture of the government buildings. Got to start in the trendy university district, as well.

In reflecting on my experience of my tour, sometimes I felt like my mind was being read for what kinds of activities I like, because they materialised in front of me without the need for me to ask for them.
I had exactly 24 hours in Bogota on a layover. I wanted to be collected from my hotel early and dropped off at the airport at the end of the day. I wanted to see the highlights, but I also wanted unique bits of culture that characterised the city of Bogota. I contacted several companies, but Hansa tours gave me the tour itinerary I was hoping for. It was also the most professional, and it allowed advance payment.
My rate ended up being about $25 per hour, which I think is a bargain considering all I got to see and do, and that I had a private van, dedicated driver and English speaking guide.
Alejandro was my guide. He is an exceptionally intelligent young man, fluent in French, German, English and (of course) Spanish. He was easygoing, jovial and fun to get to know. Literally all of his suggestions were brilliant. At one point we spent an hour in the old town playing a game called Tejo which originates from the indigenous people in the area. It involves throwing an iron puck at a clay target laden with firecrackers. When the puck hits the firecrackers there’s a big bang. It was really fun and great to enjoy while having a beer. At another point we went to the city market and bought something like 12 different types of local fruit and later sat in a park and shared them.
The driver Alex was superb. On multiple occasions Alejandro and I were dropped off to explore parts of the city. When it was time to move on the next location, Alex was never more than two minutes away. This isn’t as easy as it might sound given the local traffic jams and the maze of roads in parts of the city. I don’t know how he did it.
In the morning we went to the salt cathedral at Zipaquira, which was stunning. We then spent some time in Zipaquira itself enjoying some “street food” which is another thing I like to do. Then it was back to Bogota.
All that I had read indicated Bogota was safe, and in case anyone was worried, this was what I found to be true. But of course having a guide adds extra protection from making mistakes. I really loved the city and wish I could go back again and again. Having a tour from Hansa Tours helped make it even better.

I did a short city tour (which I know wish had been a long city tour) with David that left my head spinning with sights and information. Having an anthropologist as a tour guide must surely be every travelers dream, and David’s passion for the sights and history of this city is evident in an nicely understated way. He must have done this tour innumerable times but was always engaging and passionate. I rarely do tours but this has inspired me to do more. Would recommend to anyone and everyone.

We arranged a private tour for the day in Bogotá. We especially wanted to see the Gold Museum and the Botero Museum. All the arrangements were made via email from the US to Bogotá. Everything was handled promptly and price was reasonable ($90/pp). We paid cash at the conclusion of the tour.
Our guide was friendly and knowledgeable and spoke excellent English. The driver was friendly and drove safely. We had sufficient time so we also stopped by the Archeological museum for about an hour and then proceeded to the two other museums. Highly recommend visiting all three. We also had time to stop by an extra museum near the Botero and a couple of churches in the area. Good flexibility.
We love Bogotá – felt very safe and were well taken care of by our Hansa guide.

I’ve had a Bogota city tour, somewhat customized for my needs.
Overall it was a very good decision to go on a tour and to go with Hansa, as I was able to see all I wanted – which is practically impossible if you are on your own.
My tour guide was excellent, and had very good conversations throughout the day learned a lot about Bogota.
They very responsive when we arranged the booking, punctual at pick-up, smooth with everything.
You might want to book early if you have the luxury of doing that for better prices.
Would recommend for everyone and would do it again if I were to return for the first time to Bogota 🙂
