City Tour Monserrate in Bogota

In this City Tour Monserrate in Bogotá you will get the opportunity to go to the Monserrate Sanctuary that rises up to 3.152 over the capital, becoming the most popular viewpoint of the city, with the best view Bogotá can offer. It is the center of the national religious tradition, and has become a part of the capital’s history due to the high flow of visitants, both Colombian and foreigners. Monserrate in Bogota is a destination for the Catholics, but also for those who are looking for the beautiful landscape that you can enjoy from there. Shopping is a part of this tour too, because we can find different stores selling typical souvenirs. This is the perfect scenery to try the famous “canelazo”, a delicious mix of the traditional aguardiente with cinnamon and agua de panela, that is served hot and has an unique sweet flavor.

There are three options to reach the top of the hill: Funicular, aerial tramway or a walking path. Any of them will give us a privileged view of the city.

On the way back, La Candelaria neighborhood will be waiting for us, with all the history and buildings that were the witnesses of the city development. The National Congress, The Primal Cathedral, The Justice Palace, The Main Town Hall and the 20 of July House are some of the architectural pieces we can visit.

Bogotá’s gastronomy will show us its best dishes, leaving us ready for the second part of our tour, when we can choose one museum to visit: The Gold Museum, Botero Museum, Quinta de Bolivar Museum, National Museum, or The Military Museum.

    :

Our trip to the Salt Cathedral and then an eclectic tour of Bogota, including the Gold Museum, were outstanding. Our guide blended his knowledge of history, culture and personal experience, this blend gave us a broader picture and understanding of what we were seeing and experiencing. He was able to be appealing to me and my wife as well as our teenage kids who indicated they learned a lot and had a great time. I only wish I had more time to do the other tours offered by Hansa. One more thing, our guide even helped us hunt down hard to find vegetarian restaurants in the city.

I had the good fortune of having Luis as my driver while in Bogota. He was prompt and efficient, and more importantly, we had fascinating conversations about Colombia and the world while traveling. I heartily recommend him.

We booked our tour through our hotel and didn’t initially know it was with Hansa until our guide handed us his card at the end. I was initially leary about the cost, but it was definitely worth it. Our guide spoke perfect english, had a background in history, and presented so much detail about the city and locations that I don’t think you could have learned more even by reading countless books on the subject. He let us set the agenda and gave us recommendations for the best times to do things to ensure we were never rushed or in a place that was too crowded. Our agenda included Monserrate, La Candelaria, The Gold Museum and Botero Museum. We also toured some of the new neighborhoods. I’d highly recommend any tour with Hansa Tours

I was in Bogota on business and had half a day free before heading back to the airport – so didn’t have time to organise some sightseeing for myself – so I booked this tour through my hotel to give me a shortcut to seeing as much as possible in that time.
It was pricey ($150) but totally worth it! My guide, Juan David, was brilliant! Really knowledgeable and with perfect English. Doing a thesis on Bogota so really interesting to talk to about the history and also the people and the
culture – and also quite opinionated so it wasn’t the usual bland fact-only tour that you can sometimes get (and which I don’t feel offers much beyond a guidebook!).
We went up the funicular to Monserrate and then walked around Candelaria (including the bits outside the more touristy centre) and managed to squeeze in the highlights of 3 museums (Botero, The Old Mint and The Gold Museum). I really enjoyed it! I could have spent 4 hours in the Gold Museum alone – but I feel that Juan ensured I saw the best bits and even though we were running late he didn’t hurry me along.
Book them if you can – and get Juan David too if possible.

We only had one full day in town and decided to spend about 5 or 6 hours with Hansa around the city of Bogota.
We did the entire city centre, ate interesting things (sweets, big ar…. ants and capybara), saw some beautiful museums and churches. Sunday was a great day to do it as there was very little traffic so we could zoom everywhere, the city centre was only open to pedestrians and bikes so easy to walk the streets and Hansa even organized great weather especially for us 🙂
    Thanks guys, highly recommended!

We had 2 days in Bogota and it was very enjoyable and educational.
Our guide, Jeffer Carillo, of Hansa Tours had us fascinated by Bogota and its history, legends, sites, people, cuisine and many fascinating features the city and surrounding areas have to offer. Jeffer was professional, patient and very knowledgeable . One could feel his sincere pride and passion for being a Colombiano.
Day 1 main stops were the Montserrate summit, Museo del Oro and La Candelaria , followed by day 2 in Zipaquira. I was traveling with my 13 year old son and was worried that he would be bored or impatient, but on the contrary, he was completely enchanted by Bogota. Jeffer and Hansa Tours definitely impressed us and now we are huge fans of Bogota and Colombia and plan to explore more in the future. Thank you for such a great experience.

My family and I thoroughly enjoyed the day we spent touring Bogotá with Juan David Camacho of Hansa Tours. Juan David speaks excellent Spanish and English and is a historian with deep knowledge of the history and culture of Colombia and of Bogotá. He was great with our kids and kept the tour at just the right depth as we visited Cerro Monserrate, La Candelaria, the Botero Museum and Bolivar Plaza. This was the second time I’ve worked with Juan David and I highly recommend him!

My husband and I traveled to Bogota and had the supreme pleasure of having David Fernandez of Hansa Tours as our guide. He was knowledgeable about his country, it’s politics and history, interesting in the way he shared stories about it and fun to be with. Best of all he was interested in serving us and was open to changing the predetermined schedule to meet our needs. He even managed to get me into the most highly recognized hair stylist in Columbia and interpreted for us as I had my hair cut in a new and daring “DO”. When I came back home everyone was impressed with the great cut and I had a truly unique Columbia design experience. That’s what travel is all about and Hansa tours made it all happen for us!

As an American of Colombian descent it was amazing going back to the land my abuelas spoke so fondly of. What made my experience even more impressionable, was my visit to the “Centro Historico de Bogota y Usaquen”. Even though I am proficient in spanish, I’ll sometimes struggle with the speedy native accent so it was absolutely reassuring to have Soraya Halaby as my tour guide. She was attentive, light-hearted and added an element of humor and passion to the tour that lacked with other tour guides on other tours I’ve been on. I would definitely recommend this as a stop on any tour of Colombia’s beautiful capital.

    :

I had the best trip experience since I arrived to Bogota, until the last minute I was there. People are kind and generous. A living proof of that was my guide advisor Soraya Halaby. She was helpful, knowledgeable, and confident. She was able to answer questions very quickly. She always took the time to explain things with details which made me feel safe and secure about myself. Thanks to her I was able to see some cool places in Bogota such as: the historical town, Usaquen and the Cathedral of salt of Zipaquira. I was able to enjoy all the highlights of such a beautiful city. The tour provided by her was an unforgettable experience! I was lucky to be part of the Colombian culture and their people. As I mentioned before every minute of it was fun, educational and relaxing.
I strongly recommend people to visit Bogota, and contact Soraya Halaby to be their guide. She is reliable, smart and has a great sense of humor

In mid-November I was in Bogota, Colombia for a few days on business. Being a woman on my own and with very little knowledge of the Spanish language, I was a bit intimitated to do much exploring on my own. So I decided to book a private city tour on my last day before my late afternoon flight back to Canada. After reading good reviews on Tripadvisor and at the recommendation of my hotel, I booked a tour through Hansa Tours. To get as much in as possible I asked for a 7:30 a.m. start time the next day. My tour guide, Byron Leon, and my driver, Jairo Bernal, arrived right on time. We rode in a late model, clean mini-van. Byron spoke English very well and was quite knowledgeable of the city and its history. Jairo, a very good and safe driver, did not speak much English but was very pleasant and a real gentleman. On our way to the Candelaria District, Byron gave a running commentary of all the places we were passing. On arrival at Candelaria, Jairo dropped us off and Byron and I walked the area for for much of the morning with Byron pointing out interesting places and facts as we walked. Once we finished touring this area of the city, Jairo took us to Monserrate where Byron and I took the funicular monestary. The monestary itself was undergoing some restoration so it was not the best time to visit the building itself but the views of the city below and the neighbouring hillsides were well worth the trip up the mountain. By the time we decended we had to head to the airport for me to catch my flight and they got me there in perfect time. I left Bogota feeling like I had gotten a good taste of the city. I would highly recommend taking a trip with Hansa Tours and with Byron and Jairo, in particurlar.

I came to Bogota alone, without a working knowledge of Spanish, not knowing where to go and not knowing how to get around, so I contacted Hansa tour to see if they can suggest a 3 day private tour of the city and surrounding areas. Evelyn was very quick to get back to me with recommendations which even had multiple options for each day! Our communication went very smoothly and we nailed down a very exciting itinerary before I arrived, so I knew my time here would not be ill spent.
My guide, John Murcia, was absolutely perfect. He being knowledgeable of the places we visited was a given but what really made the trip amazing was John’s enthusiasm. John, being a travel enthusiast himself, made me feel like I was traveling with a friend. He made the trip a personal experience for me instead of one where I’d listen to a regurgitation of history lessons for 3 days.
I would definitely recommend Hansa to anyone visiting Bogota and know that you will be in good hands with John Alexander Murcia!

    :

Bogota can be an intimating city to the outsider, coming from the US we definitely felt this way. Its a shame because Bogota has alot to offer, a good guide can open doors and take you to all the must see sights without the stress of going on you own. We had never been to Bogota before. Our tour guide was Juan David and he was awesome. He showed us around the city (and 2 towns close by) over the course of two days. The tour company was great, always on time and the transportation was modern and comfortable. Juan was a great guide, he knew all about the history and cultural practices of Bogota. He helped us negotiate good prices with street vendors and always recommended (never pressured) good placed to eat and sites to see. Juan spoke perfect english, he was warm and friendly and I definitely recommend him and the company if you are looking for a guide on your visit.

I had a great experience with Hansa Tours. They were professional, easy to work with, responsive, and flexible. We customized my day tour of Bogota based on my preferences. My tour guide, John, had a great personality — he was energetic, very knowledgeable, and great to be around. I wanted to hike up Monserrate instead of taking the cable car, and they accommodated the request. John was able to describe all that we were seeing on the hike, the history of Bogota, and broader Colombia. He was also very patient as we made our way up the mountain. I’m an incredibly active person, but it was still very challenging to me because of the altitude difference (coming from Washington, DC). John made me feel comfortable on the hike and throughout the city. We also toured Candelaria – the oldest and quaintest part of Bogota, and had some local food. Overall, would highly recommend Hansa tours and John.

We took two tours with Hansa — one a coffee plantation tour, and the other a full-day combo tour of Bogota (featuring Monteratte) and the Salt Cathedral. Our guide, Daniel, was really informative and interesting, and really helped us to see a lot during our short time in Colombia. Hansa was really flexible in terms of accommodating our needs. Well worth the money!.

What can we say about Hansa Day tours other than Bravo! Job well done! The entire experience was fantastic from the ease of the online booking via a”chat” feature on their website where Angie was polite, fast, efficient, and helpful … and all in English. We needed to be picked up at our hotel and dropped off at the airport and they did that with no extra charge. Angie even gave us tips on navigating the sometimes long lines for the domestic flights to Cartegena. An email confirmation of our itenerary immediatelly followed the chat and our day trip was set. We chose the 5 hour city tour that starts at Montserrat. Our tour guide, Daniel was in the lobby waiting for us early! My husband and i were his only two passengers. The car was new and spacious and easily held our luggage in the trunk. He is the perfect guide! His engligh is great and the love of his culture and city shine through! The sights of Bogota are very beautiful and having Daniel drive you through that crazy traffic is the absolute best way to see it all! He took us to Las Acacias for a traditional Columbian lunch before dropping us at the airport and the food was amazing … there was even a roaming guitar player for authentic music! We spent a lovely day with Daniel and throughly enjoyed an insiders view of the city. Many thanks to Angie, Daniel, and Hansa Tours for bringing the beautiful city of Bogota to life.

We were in Bogota at a conference and some of the participants we only had a free afternoon to visit the city. Hansa tours filled our short time with unforgettable experience and for a very reasonable price (at least we felt that every coin was worth!)! Our bilingual guide, Carlos Alberto Segura was fantastic, he knew everything about the past and the presence of the city and gave us many great suggestions for those who stayed for longer (such as visiting on Sunday the Usaquen market – don’t miss it!). So what was our program? We were taken by bus to the bottom of Monserrate, we went up with cable-car and after visiting the church and learning about the city, we had a delicious lunch at a picturesque restaurant called “Casa Santa Clara”. Don’t miss the famous ajiaco soup! After lunch we visited the impressive Museum of Gold and made a short tour in the old downtown, La Candelaria. We were all very happy with the whole service!

I had a fantastic experience with Hansa tours and my guide Oscar Beltran was also great. I took the 6-hour tour that included dinner and can honestly say I enjoyed every single second of it. Oscar arrived on time and knew what he was talking about. We visited the Gold museum, the Botero museum, the city centre and also Monserrate hill. It was worth every cent, i couldn’t have been happier! thanks Oscar and thanks Hansa tours, I’d definitely take your services again!

I was traveling for business and had an extra day, so I booked a tour of Bogota with Hansa tours. My guide, Byron Leon, arrived promptly at my hotel and began the tour. He was exceptionally knowledgeable and very professional. Byron was enjoyable to spend the day with, and had a great sense of humor. He was also quite flexible, as a sudden down pour and hail storm changed the tempo of the tour. Angie in the office communicated quite efficiently through email, and I felt very comfortable booking this tour with Hansa. I highly recommend Hansa and Byron Leon to anyone traveling through Bogota, as there are many wonderful things to see and a rich history to experience.

This was such an awesome tour. After contemplating if I should do an eight hour or five hour tour, I ended up picking the five hour tour. I’m glad I did. There was so much to do in five hours I would’ve been too tired to do three more. Karen Zuniga was an absolute gem. She picked me up at my hotel, and from the beginning, was very personable and professional, spoke great English, and she knew a lot about history, culture, food, current events etc. I learned so much from Karen that when I am back with friends and family I definitely would take another tour with her. Karen also catered my tour to my likes, which were Monserrate, Candelaria, and The Gold Museum. Thank you so much Karen for a wonderful experience.

We had 3 days in Bogota and we wanted to find an experienced DMC (Destination management company) that would plan and arrange, the tours, the hotel , the restaurants and all transportation.
We were referred to Eric at Hansa Tours. Working with Angie they set up a great itinerary, booked the hotel, arranged transportation and provided us with Daniel Pedraza as our private driver and guide for 3 days.
Our time was maximized and we feel we saw as much of Colombia as anyone could possibly see in 3 days. Oro museum, Botero art gallery, a thorough city tour, including Monseratt. Guatavita, the Salt Cathedral, a boutique Coffee plantation ( Coloma). Fusagasuga, Girardot.
The change in Altitude and subsequent climate differential allows for among the most diverse vegetation of anywhere in the world within a 2 hour drive. And through Daniel at Hansa we saw it all.
We have been using DMC’s for years to see as much of the world as we can in short period’s of time. Hansa tours are outstanding and as good as any we have ever used anywhere in the world.
Colombia is an incredible country. We felt safe and secure. It is very clear why tourism is growing exponentially at present throughout Colombia.

Our tour guide was John and he was wonderful. We elected for a private city tour of Bogota with Monserrat. We spent about 8 hours touring around Bogota, our guide was informative and polite. John explained history, culture, food, and even assisted with getting a pair of sunglasses repaired that broke had broke at the beginning of the day. Well worth the money!

We were a little taken back by the expensive price and were unsure if it would be worth it. We went on and scheduled a trip with Daniel to tour Bogota with family of four. First, let me say that it is worth every penny. It is expensive because you have a tour guide and a separate driver which allows you to keep moving and see more stuff. We had our two young kids with us (ages 3 and 6) and Daniel was amazingly patient and sweet with them. We saw the Gold Museum, Monserrate (where we had lunch), a children’s museum, and still had time to stop for ice cream on the way home. We also did another tour while in Bogota and even though it was cheaper we wish in hindsight that we had done another day with Hansa. The excellence and professionalism of Daniel and the Hansa Tours team is unmatched in Bogota. We highly recommend this service.

John was very professional yet personable which made the tour a real pleasure. The view from Manserrati is a must see…!! Hansa tour’s office staff were extremely helpful, fast and easy to work with. We loved our tour guide (John Murcia) that we ended booking 3 tours with Hansa Tours and it is difficult for me to say which one was the best!!!
We did the Monserate and Candelaria tour that I recommed if this is your first time in Bogota
We also did the Zipaquira, Salt Cathedral which is spectacular and it is the first wonder of Colombia. Our tour guide was born and lives in Zipaquira and we could not ask for anyone with more knowledge
Lastly we did the little towns of the North tour which was great and we were able to have lunch at Andres Carne de Res in Chia which is something you should not miss!!!

My husband and I truly enjoyed our two tour guides with Hansa Tours while in Bogota. We were able to hit the highlights of the City with ease and a ton of information at hand given the guidance provided every step of the way. We had the pleasure of being guided by Daniel Pedraza when visiting the Salt Cathedral (which is a MUST SEE), and he was extremely knowledgable about not only the history of the Cathedral but the design/artist techniques used within the Cathedral’s features. He did not rush our photo-taking, and he was really flexible throughout the day. Great guides!

I booked four tours with Hansa during my recent trip to Colombia – Bogota city tour, exotic fruit/market tour, Salt Cathedral and Laguna Guatavita as well as Villa De Leyva. I reached out to their Marketing Manager Angie on Trip Advisor. Her quote was not the lowest and she was the most buttoned down amongst dozens of tour companies I contacted. Her quick responses to my inquiries and flexibility to tweak the itinerary based on my needs made me decide to go with them. I definitely made the right decision! Once I got to Bogota, my tour Byron Leon picked me up with a driver from the airport and since then, we spent 3 days together and became fast friends. Byron was hands down the best tour guide that I have ever had. He was polite, informative, punctual, attentive and caring. I learned so much from him not only about the sights but also about the way of life in Colombia which is exactly what I wanted to know. He is a safe, sane driver and a knowledgeable guide who always puts customer’s interest first. The 3 days we spent together was such a delight that they flew by quickly without me realizing it. I highly recommend Hansa Tours to anyone who wants to see and experience the real Colombia. Ask for Byron Leon to be your guide and you won’t be disappointed!

    :

We spent about 7 hours with Daniel and Paul in Bogota on the Candelaria and Monserrate tour. It was excellent. There were two adults and two children age 7 and 14. Everyone enjoyed the tour. Daniel is very good about reading the guests and he showed and told us all we needed to know about the stops but also took us to a place for my son to buy a soccer jersey which was legit and not a knock off, took my boyfriend and I to coffee made the traditional way at the gold museum, took us to a really great out of the way restaurant and made sure my 7 year old got ice cream and trinket shops. We hit the highlights of the gold museum and all saw what we wanted to see without staying too long and losing the interest of the kids. If the museum was your “must see everything” place I am sure he would have spent all of the tour time there with you. They are very flexible and really accommodate what you desire. Paul was a great and safe driver, always hovering so we didn’t have to walk to find him or leave bags alone in the car. They picked us up and dropped us off at the airport so we had no reasons to use a Taxi, which is not always safe, no hassle with the bags and no worry about dropping a rental car. We were totally unfamiliar with the area and would have never seen all we saw and what we wanted to see in 7 hours on our own and we saw it in safety and comfort. Hansa is highly recommended!

My husband and I booked Hansa Tours with Daniel Pedrazo while in Bogota. We did a city tour and ZIpaquira. Both days with the same guide and we loved it because they were both different experiences. Daniel catered the tours to our needs and even took us on little errands for wierd things like a soccer jersey and an arepa con huevo that I was craving. He addapted to our needs and didnt make the tour boring or slow. He knew all the cool, unique local places and advised us to some restaurants that werent in any guidebookes. Had the best meal during our trip at a lunch place her recommended in La Calandaria. I would highly recommened doing Hansa Tours, they are on time, safe, nice cars, and fun!!!

My two friends and I took a short trip to Bogota (early Feb 2015) and wanted to get a thorough overview of the city as well as a visit to the Salt Cathedral. We stayed at the W Hotel and they suggested Hansa Tours. We were fortunate enough to have John Murcia as our guide for two days. He was charming, engaging, flexible, prompt…but most of all, extremely knowledgeable on everything Colombia. It was such an education, but in a very comfortable and relaxing way. His suggestions for meals were fantastic and very authentic (not touristy). I would highly recommend John. We had a wonderful time experiencing Bogota with him!

We recently returned from a delightful trip to Colombia. During this visit we had the pleasure of a tour offered by Hansa tours. The tour was privided by an english interpreter and a driver, both were professional yet personal and a sheet delight. The tour provided a unique opportunity to explore the history of the area with knowledgeable and delightful “guides”. David offered a unique persepctive of the tour and we were most grateful for all that he shared with us. Paul drove us safely from our hotel to all our special locations and back again, safely and pleasantly. Thank your from the depths of our hearts for a special day!

We completed 2 trips with Hansa Tours, their Citty Tour and to the Salt Cathedral with 2 different guides, Patricia and Daniel. I had made an error about the dates when I booked. Hansa reacted very quickly to rearrange the tours. Both tours were very good and the guides everything we could have hoped for.

We had wonderful city tour with Fabian Correa. Visited old city, museum of Gold, Bolivar square, Monserrate and finished with perfect lunch at Usaquen. A lot of impression! View from Monserrate is breathtaking and will stay with us forever. Special thanks to Fabian. Really professional tour guide! Excellent knowledge of history, a lot of interesting information and perfect English!

I was in Bogota with classmates for an international business course. On our free day, several of us booked Daniel with Hansa tours through our hotel. He arrived early and went above and beyond to accommodate anything we wanted to do for the next 7 hours. Our first stop was the salt cathedral. Daniel’s knowledge about the stations of the cross leading down the path into the main chamber and the main chamber itself were exemplary. His English was also excellent. The salt cathedral was amazing. On the drive there through town (Zipaquira) we saw an outside BBQ restaurant (Colombian style) and several shops. We asked Daniel if we could eat there and shop on our way back and he was happy to order for us and takes us into the small village shops. The meal was absolutely amazing, even if it did include capybara (which was delicious). a couple of us were also interested in the leather shops in Bogota. On the way back to the city, Daniel made a surprise stop and bought us Yucca cheese bread prior to stopping at the local leather stores. The bread tasted like it was straight out of the oven. The location of leather stores didn’t seem to be the best, but Daniel and his driver made sure we were well taken care of. If they didn’t have the color that you wanted, a worker would just run down the street to the factory and grab the correct color. I highly recommend Daniel and the 4 of us who spent the day with him will remember the experience forever. Thank you!

We used Hansa for two days to do a tour of Monserratte, La Candelaria, the Salt Cathedral, and Lake Guatavita. They were great and very reasonably priced. Our guide was Patricia. We got along with her super well, and she was very fun to have around. Would definitely recommend Patricia and this company to anyone going to Bogota.

We took the tour last Saturday and Fabian Correa our guide met us promptly at the reception of our hotel. We drove directly to La Candelaria as Montserrate was covered in fog. Fabian was a very knowledgeable guide and gave us a lot of interesting insights to history of the area. The was very interesting and well organized – highly recommended!

I was able to escape a few work meetings to experience a lovely tour by Patricia. She was very knowledgeable, and shared a lot of great information about Bogota. We were fortunate to go on a beautiful day and experience Monserrate montain, which was beautliful along with the City Center. Thanks for all of your guidance, it really helped learn more about Bogota then trying to tour on my own!

In March 2015, we had a family reunion in Bogota. Hansa tours was contracted to show us around a city that most of our children did not know. The administrative staff was very professional and responsive. We were fortunate to have Juan-David Camacho as our guide. What a treat! Additionally, our group of 14 persons was quite the challenge with varying age groups from 87 to 5 year old, interests and 2 languages. The elders in our group spoke Spanish with limited English and the young ones, spoke only English. Mr. Camacho switched between the two languages quite easily and when it came to walking around, he gracefully and respectfully kept us all in consideration, making adjustments if necessary to the pace. It was like herding cats but he got it done. The best part was the in-depth, “behind-the-scenes” historical information. We found out he is a History professor at the university. It was awesome! Our wonderful van/mini-bus drivers were punctual, professional and completed the Hansa team to give us a wonderful experience. We are planning on returning next year with a smaller group and asking Hansa with Mr. Camacho to show us around again.

I would like to say Hansa Tours Day and especially tour guide Catalina Rincon were absolutely the best. She was well prepared, knew everything about the city and history. She was very much in detail, friendly and positive and willing to answer any questions, she showed Bogota better than any travel guide would. EXCELLENT FRIENDLY SERVICE

With limited time in Bogota, we were picked up at the airport late morning and taken to Monserrat. Being Sunday it was very busy but great viewing weather. We particularly wanted to visit Museo de Oro and David’s explanation of this great place made it even more special. We then toured La Candelaria and Bolivar square. David was very aware of our time constraints but also very keen to show us as much of his city as possible and answer any questions we had about local life and we really enjoyed his company. Following day we visited Zipaquira, again made much more enjoyable by David’s explanations. He left us at Usaquen, about which he had enthused, with information about the area and how to safely get back to our hotel. A great couple of tours, good price and very efficient handling of our booking.

I had the pleasure of taking two tours with Hansa. The first was to a sacred lake and the salt cathedral. The second was a tour of Bogota and the Gold Museum. For both tours I had Catellina as tour guide, and she was great! Very knowledgeable and enjoyable to be with. I also liked that the tour groups are small…just two of us on both tours.
Her English was also good, but with a nice Spanish accent.

Great experience. Visited many places in a short time. The guide, Catalina, was very knowledgable and eager to share her knowledge. I would definitely go on a tour with Hansa and her again.

Great tour guide Catalina…she was great fun, informative and had great knowledge. This was a great intro to the city and city life…I would highly recommend these tours. Great history, street culture and art. In Bogota very little english is spoken so its very useful to have a guide that can show you round and translate when you need.

We had a wonderful and extensive day trip of Bogota with our guide Juan David…I still can’t quite believe how much was packed into an 8 hour tour of the city.
Juan arrived promptly at our hotel in his spotlessly clean car. We soon had a great rapport with Juan as he is very personable, intelligent and knows every inch of Bogota so it seemed to us…his background in history really helped to bring the city alive. He also has a great knowledge of city planning which gives the tour great interest. We started in the old quarter, visiting the beautiful gold museum – this is really incomparable and Juan devoted a good length of time to this visit. Several ancient churches followed which were very interesting.
We then headed up the mountain on the cable car for a tour of the church and, best of all, a great view of the city. A terrific lunch followed in a lovely part of town and a wander through the excellent craft and arts market…back to town for a walk through the older part of town, the main square and several art galleries – all splendidly housed in beautiful old Spanish buildings.
What made this tour special was Juan’s extensive knowledge of and passion for his city of Bogota. I would thoroughly recommend this tour – 5 Stars!

Our hotel booked a day tour with Alejandro Chaves and it was worth every penny! He brought the city to life for us by sharing political stories and interesting insight from his anthropology background while showing us around Calendaria as well as the Botero and the Gold museums. The most rewarding aspect for us was getting to know a local while soaking up the Colombian capital. Five hours flew by – highly recommended!

Hansa Tours has an 800 number to reach them internationally. Nora was very quick to respond with questions and concerns. They were able to schedule a guide, Daniel for a solo city tour during a layover that my son had on July 21. My son said that Daniel was a great guide, very informative for the tour and provided good company. The price for the day seemed reasonable and we scheduled less than a week in advance. Daniel picked my son up at the airport and then dropped him back off in time to get through customs. It was a positive experience and well worth the peace of mind that I needed. Thank you Hansa Tours.

We arrived in Bogotà without a plan and ended up booking a day tour with Hansa tours on a same day notice. Our guide for the day was Byron Leon, who showed us all the sights, took us to places for local food and really improved our first impression of the city. The day trip included a visit to Monserrat, the gold museum and a walking tour around La Candelaria.
Monseratt offers a fantastic view of the city and is a “must do”. The gold museum was also impressive, but I would strongly recommend doing this with a guide – that makes all the difference.
We told Byron that we were planning to go to Ibagué by plane the next day. The fares were really expensive and Byron suggested he could take us there by car instead. We accepted his offer and this proved to be the best decision we made during the entire trip. We drove one way to Ibagué and another way back in order to see the most along the way. Ibagué was a beautiful and vibrant city, with a nice warm climate. On the way to and from Ibagué we did a lot of different things, inter alia, we visited a coffee plantation to learn more about the process of making coffee. We also stopped in many beautiful, small villages along the way.
Byron really impressed us with his great knowledge and I can`t remember a single question he was unable to answer. He was also a genuinely nice and pleasant person to travel with. I am pleased to say that Byron was not only our guide, but he also became a friend during the three days we spent together. We would like to give him our warmest recommendations – and when we return to Colombia, we will definitely ask Byron to show us more of this amazing country!

I had the privilege of meeting Andrea Espinosa, one of Hansa’s tour guides. She was amazing! She was very knowledgeable and has very good insights of Bogota. I learned a lot in a very short period of time. I may have already forgotten all the historical names she mentioned but I really appreciate that she shared a lot about Bogota and Colombia’s history.
I would love to go back to Bogota and I am hoping to spend more time there. I have to see the Gold and Botero Museums as they were already closed when we got there. Lastly, I want to say that you have earned a loyal customer here. Be assured that I will spread the great job your tour company is doing for Colombia. I will highly recommend my friends to go to Colombia and look for your company to have an enjoyable time as I have.Muchas gracias.

What an exciting and surprising day we had. We could not have asked for a better English speaking tour guide. Maria José was extraordinary. Very informative and a native of Columbia. She made our experience everything we were hoping for.
We visited Monserrate Hill, rode the cable car up the Mountain and then went to LaCandeleria. Beautiful architecture in all different styles. Maria’s knowledge of the history behind Bogotá was very impressive. She was nice to treat us to the local sweets and fresh mango and a quick stop so I could pick up Columbian coffee as my souvenir.
Thank you Embassy Suites for going the extra mile and finding Maria José for us. We will never forget Bogotá.

The second day was Small Towns around Bogota, including Zitaquira and the Salt Cathedral-the highlight of the day and a must visit. Both tours were excellent. All at a comfortable pace, never in a rush. Our guide for both days, Leonardo, was outstanding. Great knowledge of all the sites, it’s history and people. It was like travelling with a friend or relative from Colombia. We cannot say enough about this young man .

We had the pleasure of having Andrea as our tour guide for one complete day to
tour the points of interest in the city of Bogota. Andrea not only spoke perfect English but she was knowledgeable, interesting and ready to answer and give us lots of extra details about every inquire. Andrea tailored the tour so that we were able to see all the points of interest with the least amount of crowds. Andrea paced the tour so that it would be a pleasant and memorable experience.
Andrea also added a few extra stops that allowed us to sample some local dishes and
visit a Sunday market with local products.
Carolina, the office manager, was quick to answer our e-mails, make suggestions and
adjust our plans so that we could maximize our day in Bogota.
I would highly recommend this tour company! This company met all of our objectives!

My sister, a friend of many years and I just returned from a great trip organized by Hansa Tours. I had not been able to locate a tour agency that would meet our desired mode of travel and desired destinations but through Trip Advisor I read many glowing reviews of day trips in Bogota and surrounding area. I contacted Erik Boeglke and he organized a great itinerary visiting several areas of Colombia (Bogota, Villa de Leyva, coffee growing area, Cali and Cartagena). We had a charming guide/ driver for most of the trip, Byron León, who attended to the 3 of us ladies with close attention to our age and abilities. The Colombia I had lived in 1980-87 has greatly changed. Safe, good roads, clean beautiful landscape, history and the warmth of the Colombian people made our visit memorable.

My work colleague and I did a 7 hour tour of Bogota with Alejandro, who was great. We went to Monserrate, La Candelaria, Plaza del Bolivar, and a few other places in between. Alejandro was great to speak with, was enthusiastic about what he told us, showed us many interesting details we may have otherwise overlooked, and was also very adaptable; we were running short on time but wanted to stop at an additional location, so Alejandro called the company and arranged to stay with us an extra hour separately. The driver couldn’t also extend his schedule, so Alejandro escorted us in a taxi afterward to make sure we got back to where we started. I would absolutely do a tour with HANSA again when in Bogota in the future.

I booked 2 tours with Hansa: an 8 hour sightseeing tour, and a 5 hour nightlife tour (I was traveling alone and didn’t really know where to go on the weekend).
My guide for both was Marcello, I cannot express enough how amazing he was. On the sightseeing tour he was not only knowledgeable and entertaining, but he made it his mission to make sure I got everything I wanted out of Bogota. That meant seeking out traditional foods, detouring if something caught my interest (big detours, once or twice), and looking for ways to customize the experience as he learned more about what I wanted to see and do. After the 2 tours, he made sure I had his contact number in case I needed help during the remainder of my time.
Prior to the trip, I booked everything through Carolina. She was friendly and very professional. She confirmed everything in advance and always returned my emails promptly. I was very pleased with process.
As for the tours themselves: The sightseeing tour was perfect. Although Marcello let me divert us a little, I think anyone visiting Bogota for the first time should take this tour. I was a bit disappointed by the nightlife tour, but maybe it was silly of me to book a tour to a bunch of bars and clubs. I felt a little silly telling people about it. Regardless of that, I’m giving Hansa 5 stars and I highly recommend them.

We did a tour of Monserrate and La Candelaria with Marcelo, and we very much enjoyed the experience. We booked the tour through Carolina without much notice, and we were very surprised and pleased that we could be accommodated, especially during the holidays and high season for tourism. Carolina was very helpful and responsive beforehand, and Marcelo was fun, knowledgeable, easygoing and accommodating during the tour. He made sure that we got what we wanted out of the experience. He was extremely multilingual and was an interesting person with whom to spend a few hours. Everything was easy and well-organized, and we definitely recommend Hansa Tours.

I booked the 5 hour Monserrate tour before I arrived in Bogota. Not knowing anything about the city I found Natalia to be an informed and fun guide. It was so good ,in fact, I booked another tour for the next day to go to the Salt Cathedral. Natalia was the perfect guide customizing the tour to what I was interested in, not necessarily what the basic tourist expects to see. I highly recommend Natalia and Hansa Tours.

I had one day and booked an 8 hour tour that included Monserrat, a fabulous walking tour of La Candelaria and lunch. Alejandro was tour guide was outstanding, first off he had the patience of a saint given my limited Spanish but more so he was knowledgeable and personable. We saw about 5 different churches (my weakness) and museums. walked for hours and we never had a quiet moment be it talking Bogota history or world economy. Also a shout out to Paul our driver who navigated the traffic and recommended a great restaurant. Saludos

First time in Bogota and had the opportunity to extend my business trip over the weekend. Arranged a 1/2 day solo tour with Angelica. She picked me up promptly at my hotel and had a car and driver at our disposal. The driver, didn’t catch her name was also very professional. Angelica was personable, professional and knowledgeable; she clearly has a passion for archeology which made the visits informative. We went to Montserrat, Botero museum, Gold Museum, Plaza Bolivar, the Candelaria, Casa Gomez Campuzano. This was a great way to see the city in a short period of time. Very easy to arrange and worry free. Highly recommend it.

We spent three wonderful days with Hansa Tours. We learned and we had a great time. Juan David took us to quite a mix of places – the Salt Cathedral, Montserrat, Tequendama Falls and an orchid preserve. Juan is relaxed, knowledgeable and easy to talk to. His knowledge of English and of Columbian history are excellent. Hansa Tours was always on time; their vans had enough room and Juan stimulated many conversations about Colombia. My wife and I are thinking Colombia deserves another visit.

As part of my very early career I was a vice president of a prestigious travel agency and tour operating company in Canada. Perhaps because of this I can either dislike tours in other countries or find them exceptional. While visiting Bogota on international business unrelated to tourism I wanted a flexible tour where my business partner and I could discover main attractions, have a great meal and even change our mind and go to an area of more interest to us. Hansa Tours provided a guide by the name of Marcelo who made our day tour exceptional. He spoke English beautifully clear…and this was his third language after Spanish and German. He had much knowledge to deliver detail on every area we visited and was able to expand on our interests without any make believe answers. He was born in Bogota and had lived and worked in other countries providing him with a beautiful understanding of our comfort zone. The typical Bogota meal…excellent in an intimate historic setting. The tour was everything we needed as well as wanted. Strongly recommend.

My colleague and I suddenly had a day without meetings, but wondered if booking a next-day tour after 8 p.m. was even a possibility. Our hotel, NH Collections Teleport, recommended Hansa Tours and booked a 6 hour tour for us, to include Monserrate, Bogota Old Town, and the Gold Museum (tours are private and customizable). Driver Paul and Guide Nicole met us at our hotel at 9 a.m. Nicole praised us for our choice of start times, because all the sights we wanted to see get busy if you arrive later in the morning. Nicole has a degree in history and anthropology, so she was a library of knowledge for two Canadians who’d never visited Colombia before. Not only was she informative and friendly, but Nicole also acted as our Spanish language interpreter. She balanced guiding with being sensitive to our spontaneous shopping and browsing wishes. We stopped to sample Bogota street food, which was delicious, and had a highlights tour of the Gold Museum. We were dropped back at our hotel by 3 p.m. The day was a most enjoyable break from our work schedule, and made me want to return to Bogota as a tourist!

This was our first visit to Bogota and we wanted to experience as much of the culture, people and history of the City as we could in four days. Our hotel (JW Marriott) recommended Hansa Tours. They did not disappoint. Carolina at Hansa was informative and easy to work with and we were able to arrange a tour for just my wife and I at the times and the flexibility we desired.
For the first three tours (Zipauira/Salt Cathedral; Monserrate/La Candelaria/Gold Museum; and Coffee Plantation, we had the good fortune of having Nicol as our guide. She is a history and anthropology graduate who spoke English very well. She was knowledgable, informative, personal and enthusiastic (what more can you ask of a guide?). Nicol was able to augment the information provided by the local guides. The hours we spent with her sped by in conversation and laughter. Her suggestions for lunch restaurants varied and gave us a good understanding of the local food. She provided the flexibility we desired.
One day was spent touring the Bontanical Gardens. If you like plants and flowers, the Garden is not to be missed. It was wonderful and our guide, Jorge (a biology major) contributed greatly to the experience. His knowledge of plants, flowers, trees, fruits and geology was outstanding as was his personality. The hours of walking passed easily because of the discussions that were held. Our trip to the local food market was informative and fun because of Jorge.
Our drivers were careful and kept us safe through the hectic traffic. They were always there in a timely manner to pick us up and drop us off at the many locations discovered on our trip.
The cost of the tours was fair for the value received. However, Nicol and Jorge were a large factor in getting as much as we did from the sites. The coffee plantation was a long drive from the City and made longer because of the traffic during Easter Week. We have been to a couple of other coffee plantations in Central and South America and, if you have visited other coffee plantations elsewhere, I would suggest skipping this one. We were scheduled to do the Guatavita Lagoon and Guatavita tour but, due to a fire at the Lagoon, we were unable to do so.

I visited Bogotá for business purposes but I had the whole weekend free. I decided to take some tours to see the city and surroundings. I ended up booking 2 tours with Hansa.
The first one was to the national park Chicaque. My guide was Marcello. He was great and cheerful all the time ;). We walked 13 km in the rain and regarding the weather it was a great experience. The rain forest in the fog was truly beautiful and Marcello very helpful and fun.
The second trip was in the city – Monserrate, local market and Candelaria. My guide was Daniel, another great guy. He organised the perfect trip so we didn’t have to stand in lines. He took me to the best places and told much about the history. It was a wonderful trip.
All in all Hansa Tours were great. I would pick them again any time!

We recently visited Bogota and had a great experience during our city tour. Marcelo our tour guide picked us up at our hotel, he had been recommended by our concierge as one of the best tour guides in Bogota and she was right!!! Visited Monserrate, up there visited the Cristo Caido, the local market where we drank mate and ate ants (tasted like peanuts???). Also went to the center of the city where we had a great lunch and great conversation with our guide, ate ajiaco and a paisa bandeja, totally full wonderful dishes. Both The Botero Museum and Museo de Oro were awesome, don’t miss them they are a must. Marcelo made our visit enjoyable, you could tell he was having fun as we were, he spoke so proudly of his country, history and his heritage WOW!!! Thank you Marcelo, made a new friend, learnt a lot and had a great time. Highly recommended.

My hotel recommended this tour group because I had only a few hours to see Bogota while on a very short business trip here. The guide, Daniel, was terrific, and did exactly what I wanted to do–primarily Monserrat and the wonderful Botero Museum, with a few other sections of town thrown in. He was extremely knowledgeable and courteous, and I felt I saw exactly what I wanted to see in the time frame available. Also had a wonderful driver, Carlos. The private tour is pricey, but I felt well worth it. Would recommend to anyone.

With only half day free before I end a business trip in Bogota, I booked a private tour with Hansa to get a glimpse of the city before flying back home. The guide, Daniel, originally from Bogota and lived in US over 10 years, is very experienced and speaks good English. He blended nicely introduction of Colombia history, culture, & art with sightseeings and local daily life. We visited landmark like Monseratte, Bolivar square, also Gold and Botero Museum. The Gold Museum was a high light with a lot of insight about Local Indian tradition and history. Daniel kept a good pace of the tour in spite of the short time frame and I would really recommend him as guide for Bogota.

my family used Hansa Tours for our first trip to colombia. It was my wife and my two kids, my daughter 17 and my son , 16. First of all, the tour company was wonderful! I started communicating with them back in late march to set up my june tour. They always answered my emails promptly and a special thanks to Carolina who always helped me when i called to ask questions. Our tour guide was Nicole and the driver was Alex! Both were excellent! Nicole speaks perfect English and she is a Bogota native and has a degree in anthropology. She was very accomodating and took us on the best tours! The first day we did the zipiquira and salt caand also a nature reserve. The salt cathedral and zipiquira was wonderful, especially the place we went for lunch, try the grilled trucha fish. afterwards, she took us to Sopo to tour the Alpina cheese factory which was great! we got to try all the awesome Colombia desserts and my kids loved it!!!! I would skip the nature preserve or if you do it, only do it for one hour. It was interesting but the guide at the reserve talked too much about the same thing. I t was Nicole’s first time there and she agreed with us. The second day we did Monserrate, took the cable car to the top. 10500 feet! take a jacket and drink the coca tea. Nicole took us to all the great spots on the top of the mountain and let us try aguardiente and the coca tea. it is hard to breath at that elevation, so the tea really helps. Afetrwards, we did the museum of gold, hit some markets, walked around canalaria, and ate luch at a great restaurant near la puerta falsa. try the ajicao soup. Nicole took us to some great markets. Th e next day we did the Palequmeo market which was great and Nicole let us try all the different fruits and juices. Awesome! Then we saw the flower market attached to the market. also, walked around la candelaria and ate lunch at a fantastic vegetarian restaurant in la candelaria, called quinua y amaranto. Also did the Botero museum, which was great as well. Then they dropped us off at the airport. In conclusion, anybody that tells you that Colombia is very dangerous is ignorant…look at the violence here in America, and we were in colombia during the Orlando massacre. Yes, you have to be careful not wearing lots og jewelry, and dont go into bad areas, but i can honestly say that in all my travels i have never met such nice people as in Colombia. The food was excellent, the surroundings are gorgous. The tour guide Nicole was awesome and she made the trip so much more special. I would recomend this tour company to everyone!!! Ask for nicole , she was the best! our kids loved this trip and you know how hard it is to please teenagers. You also get so much for your money because of the peso that it makes things so much more affordable. Come to Colombia and book with Hansa Tours!!!
