The 'Fragmentos' counter-monument, conceived by the artist Doris Salcedo and made with the collaboration of women victims of the Colombian armed conflict, is operated by the National Museum of Colombia of the Ministry of Culture and will have a schedule that will bring together the presentation of artistic works commissioned especially for the site, cultural activities, conferences and workshops.
The work consists of three spaces articulated on a large metal surface formed by the molten metal of the weapons delivered by the former FARC guerrillas.
Through this project the artist has conceived a place that seeks to create dialogues from a new physical and conceptual platform, which proposes a constant reflection on the effects and ruptures of the Colombian armed conflict. This place, which intertwines the concepts of surface, silence, emptiness and ruin, goes well beyond the traditional idea of a monument that seeks to expose an epic version of our recent history. According to Salcedo, this place has a human scale that, thanks to peace, allows Colombians to stand on a new reality.
